Southern Marin EcoMoms and the Marin Mompreneurs spread the word about Marin Green Business Program

Last Wednesday evening, March 24, the Marin County Green Business Program got a giant boost from local ecomoms and members of another local mother’s group, the Marin Mompreneurs.

About 40 attendees, mostly local business owners, gathered at Green by Design/Mahoney Architects in Mill Valley to find out why they should consider getting certified as a Marin Green Business.

Eric Steinhofer, husband of local green-certified biz owner (and EcoMom) Tanya Steinhofer, gave an overview of the Marin Green Biz program and why it should matter to anyone who owns (or is employed by) a Marin business. Turns out certification is great for your image as well as your bottom line—reducing, reusing, and recycling saves serious cash as well as the planet.

A nugget from the Marin Green Business website:

The Green Business Program is a voluntary partnership among business leaders, government agencies and non-profit organizations. We recognize and promote businesses that demonstrate continuous compliance with applicable environmental regulations, conserve energy, water, and other materials, implement sound environmental practices that prevent pollution and waste generation, and share environmentally responsible practices with other businesses in our community.

Please check out www.maringreenbusiness.org if you are interested in learning more about the program. Consensus among the many business owners attending who had already gotten their certification is that it is easy, educational, and incredibly beneficial to business. If you need help getting started, just email Eric eric@redwoodgrovewm.com.

After the initial overview of the program, Collen Mahoney of Mahoney Architects facilitated a truly inspirational panel of women business owners (who just happen to be moms) discussing how to green your business. Check out the lineup:

This EcoMom would like to thank Katy Song of Marin Mompreneurs for conceptualizing and organizing the whole event.
The more we can spread the word about the Marin Green Biz Program, the better the health of our families and planet!
