I have only been apart of this for 3 weeks now, I haven't lost pounds but I have lost a lot of inches. Here are more details on my progress- http://retrohousewifegoesgreen.com/2012/07/go-green-get-fit-week-2/
So happy you joined us, Lisa! You've accomplished so much in such a short period already - you're an inspiration! Keep up the great work! :)
I was going gang busters until a couple of weeks ago when I was traveling and everything went out the window, but back on board now and feeling good with commitments.
I'm realizing that flexibility is key in the summer months. I've been out of town a lot and my kids have a different schedule every week so it is impossible to stick to any kind of fitness schedule. Even though I haven't been doing traditional exercise (running, going to the gym) as often, I have been getting exercise in different ways like biking, body surfing, walking in the sand. I even count building a stone wall and laying sod in my yard as exercise - it's quite a workout!
I count all yard work too! 635 calories are burned every time I mow my lawn!
Wow - that's amazing...both the calories burned and that you are out there mowing! That's one task I beg hubby to do - scares me to death to think about mowing with the kids running around. But maybe I should take that on - to the tune of 635 calories burned! :)
Absolutely!!!! I moved a couple of rocks and called it exercise...much less building an entire stone wall. Sounds like a LOT of work - but hopefully way worth it! :)
Currently I am staying on track with portion control. I wasn't able to get out running last week- but I am ready to hit it hard again this week. I try not to weight myself and just go off of how I feel. I want to be healthy and in shape.
That's a great point, Courtney! Health and Wellness are not about the number on the scale, but how you feel and how your activities and choices are supporting your overall well-being. Great to hear you're finding some balance in all of this! :)
I am doing great with my food choices and goal to get in bed at a decent hour every night. My workouts haven't been what I wanted, but that's life... I have small children and their needs come first. The biggest triumph in the last few weeks is simply that my family is starting to get excited about exercise. My 16 month old daughter can hold plank with me and my 3 year old loves to join me in jumping jacks, sit ups, stretches and running. I love it!
That is so cute!!! I need to get better about incorporating the kids into my routine. Honestly, I love heading out the door by myself to run because it's the only quiet time I ever have. But you're doing your kids such a huge service by getting them involved and excited about exercise so young! As wonderful as my mom is in a million ways, she never took care of herself physically and I never saw her exercise. I want to set that example for my kids. Thanks for the reminder!! :)
I'm totally on track! My goal is to run a 5k and that is scheduled for August 30th! I'm up to running 2.50 miles without stopping which for me is a very awesome accomplishment. I can't wait to move on up to train for my 10k!
